"Don’t: Leave your napkin on your chair when excusing yourself from the table."
Would you explain this more? In dining etiquette it is recommended you leave your napkin on your chair, to indicate you are coming back. Once used, a napkin only goes back on the table at the close of the meal.
Where should your napkin go if you need to be excused excused to the rest room and will be returning to the tea table?
Thanks so much!

I am planning an afternoon "TEA For The GIRLS". The setting will be an antebellum mansion. I inherited a Silver Plated Tea Service from my mother. Will it be okay to use a silver pot to serve? The tray is dreadfully heavy, I am not sure that I can handle it. There will be approximately 175 invitations sent. Can we use paper napkins and plastic plates and utensils? ()this will also be a fund raising vent)

Hi Diana,
Afternoon tea on a ship sounds like a lovely experience. I hope you enjoyed it! Everything on the 3 tiered plate would be for just you and your daughter to share :)

I went to "tea" aboard a Viking ship (the Star). However, I know nothing of the rules. I have been wondering: my daughter and I were given the 3 tiered plate, filled with goodies. Were we supposed to take one and leave the rest or were we to eat them all. What is proper

That’s a great question! I empty it at the end because usually the strainer is never really full. Depending on the teapot (some have built in filters), only a few leaves escape when pouring a small cup. However, it would be best to have the loose leaf tea in an infuser basket or removable filter of some sort. This way the leaves can easily be removed so they do not oversteep.
