Servings 1 cup

Ingredients

  • cup cherries washed, pitted and halved
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan over medium-heat, combine the washed, pitted and halved cherries, water and granulated sugar.
  • Bring to a boil then reduce heat to a simmer. Simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to make sure the granulated sugar dissolves. You can also use a potato masher to mash the cherries as they are cooking into the syrup.
  • Remove the syrup from the heat and pour it through a fine mesh strainer to remove the cherries. The leftover cherries can be saved instead of throwing them away. Mix into iced teas, ice cream, oatmeal or top pancakes and waffles.
  • Allow the syrup to cool before storing in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 weeks.
