Make your own mint simple syrup at home with this easy recipe. Mint flavoured simple syrup is a wonderful summer staple so you can make all of your favourite drinks extra refreshing with fresh mint flavour!
In a small saucepan over medium-heat, combine fresh mint leaves, water and granulated sugar. Lightly crush or muddle the fresh mint leaves to help release their oils. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally to dissolve sugar.
Remove from heat, cover and let the mint leaves steep for 20-30 minutes. Covering while steeping the mint leaves is important so the essential oils don’t escape. This will help make sure the simple syrup is flavourful.
When the time is up, pour the simple syrup through a fine mesh strainer to remove the mint leaves and any tiny particles.
Let the mint simple syrup cool. It will slightly thicken as it cools.
Pour the syrup into a sterilized airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.
