  • Brown Sugar: Light or dark brown sugar works. This will give the syrup a deeper flavour that compliments the apple notes. 
  • Water: Tap water or filtered water, if possible.
  • Apple Juice: 100% apple juice — no preservatives or added sugar.
  • Apples: I like using Honey Crisp or Gala, but you can try this recipe with other types of apples, too.
  • Cinnamon Sticks: A touch of cinnamon to add some warmth!

Apple Crisp Syrup Recipe

In a small saucepan over medium-heat, combine brown sugar, water, apple juice, apple slices and cinnamon sticks. You can break the cinnamon sticks in half to get more flavour from them.

Bring it to a boil then reduce heat to simmer for 15 minutes. Stir the mixture occasionally to make sure the brown sugar dissolves completely. 

Remove the apple crisp simple syrup from the heat. Pour it through a fine mesh strainer to remove the apple slices and cinnamon sticks.

Let the simple syrup cool completely before storing it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks. 

Sweeten tea, lattes, cocktails and more by using 1 tablespoon per 1 cup. You can adjust to your taste preference though.

Variations & Substitutions

  • Apple is the star of this syrup but if you would like more spice you can add extra cinnamon sticks or even cloves, ginger or nutmeg instead.
  • For a thicker syrup that would work better on pancakes and waffles, increase the amount of brown sugar.
