Apple Cinnamon Hojicha Latte

Sweet apples, aromatic cinnamon and roasted green tea create a blend of fall flavours for this latte. Made with hojicha powder, homemade apple crisp syrup and milk, this Apple Cinnamon Hojicha Latte is earthy with real apple flavour and a kiss of warm spice.

Apple Cinnamon Hojicha Latte

I often see hojicha as a delicious tea for the cooler seasons because it is a roasted green tea and its flavour profile makes it extra comforting.

This toasty tea is also known for its natural caramelized undertones. Pair that with apples and cinnamon and you have an incredible combination.

You can also try apple and hojicha together with a Hojicha Apple Cake or an Apple Cider Hojicha Mocktail.

This apple cinnamon hojicha latte recipe is very simple. It takes less than 5 minutes to make and you only need a handful of ingredients. Plus, it is low in caffeine.

Whether you need to warm up from the blustery cold weather or just need a comforting drink, you’ll want to keep this recipe on hand. Don’t forget to top this latte with a swirl of whipped cream, cinnamon and apple slices before enjoying!

Ingredient Notes

Here is what you will need for this roasted green tea latte recipe:

  • Hojicha Powder: This latte uses hojicha powder instead of loose leaf tea as it offers a deeper flavour. Click here to find the best hojicha powder recommendations.
  • Hot Water: Hojicha powder should be prepared with hot water, under boiling temperature.
  • Apple Crisp Simple Syrup: Store-bought or homemade apple crisp syrup can be used. This is what will make the latte flavoured with apple and cinnamon.
  • Milk: Dairy or oat milk are my top choices, but you can use any type of milk.
  • Whipped Cream, Cinnamon and Apple Slices: to garnish the latte!

Find the printable recipe card at the end of this post for the full directions and ingredient measurements.

In a mug, sift hojicha powder to remove clumps. Add hot water and whisk together until smooth. Hojicha powder can be whisked with a bamboo whisk or an electric whisk, similar to matcha.

Pour apple crisp simple syrup into the mug of hojicha and stir until well combined.

Heat and froth milk of your choice. Add the milk froth to the mug with some whipped cream on top.

Sprinkle ground cinnamon and garnish with thin apple slices. Enjoy!

Substitution and Variations

You can customize this hojicha latte in a variety of ways. Here are a few ideas:

  • Spiced Caramel Apple, anyone? Drizzle caramel sauce on top of this latte.
  • Vegan friendly options. Use dairy-free milk and whipped cream to make this recipe vegan.
  • Add more caffeine. Make it a dirty hojicha latte by adding a shot of espresso if you need a caffeinated boost.

Frequently Asked Questions

apple cinnamon hojicha

What does hojicha taste like?

Since hojicha is a roasted green tea it is not vegetal or grassy like other green teas. It is also brown in colour, not green. The flavour is more rich and nutty with caramel undertones.

How can I make an iced apple cinnamon hojicha latte?

To make an iced version of this latte recipe, prepare the hojicha powder the same way, stir in the apple crisp syrup then add it to a glass of ice with milk. Top the glass with the whipped cream. Garnish with ground cinnamon and thin apple slices.

Can I use a different apple simple syrup?

I have only tested this recipe with my homemade apple crisp simple syrup. However, you can try it with a similar store-bought simple syrup as well. The main flavours of the simple syrup should be apple followed by cinnamon.

Is there caffeine in this hojicha latte?

Yes, this hojicha latte is caffeinated. However, it should be noted that this roasted green tea has very low caffeine levels. In fact, it is lower than other green teas. Therefore, some may find it to be okay to drink later in the day.
