Celebrate the most wonderful time of the year with this festive drink! Black tea, homemade sugar cookie flavoured syrup and milk come together to create a Sugar Cookie Tea Latte. With sweet notes of vanilla, butter and almonds, sipping this latte is like eating freshly baked cookies with a cup of tea.
What is a Sugar Cookie Tea Latte?
In 2021, Starbucks released their first Sugar Cookie Latte for the holiday season. Of course, it is a coffee-based latte though.
This Sugar Cookie Tea Latte is the tea version. I created it so tea drinkers do not have to miss out and they can enjoy the popular festive drink, too!
This latte recipe combines a bold black tea with sugar cookie syrup and milk. It’s still caffeinated and delicious.
Also, with this recipe Sugar Cookie Lattes no longer have to be seasonal only. It can be enjoyed at home year-round!
Sugar Cookie Tea Latte Ingredients
– Black Tea
Loose leaf black tea or tea bags can be used in this recipe.
– Water
Black tea should be prepared with freshly boiled water (100 degrees Celsius or 212 degrees Fahrenheit)
– Sugar Cookie Simple Syrup
My recipe uses a homemade sugar cookie simple syrup. Find the recipe for that here. You can add more or less to your latte, per your taste.
– Milk
If you would like this recipe to be a closer Starbucks Sugar Cookie Latte copycat then use almond milk or oat milk. However, I use dairy milk.
– Sprinkles
Garnish the latte with sprinkles, red and green ones if you want to be extra festive!
Frequently Asked Questions
What black tea should I use?
I recommend a bold black tea. Ceylon, Assam, breakfast teas or even your favourite Orange Pekoe tea bag should do the trick.
The tea will be steeped double strength so that the flavours don’t get hidden behind the syrup and milk.
Can I make this latte iced?
Absolutely! There are instructions in the printable recipe card below that will guide you on how to make an Iced Sugar Cookie Tea Latte.
What is in a Starbucks Sugar Cookie Latte?
Not tea! Instead, a Sugar Cookie Latte from Starbucks is made with Starbucks blonde espresso, sugar cookie flavoured syrup, almond or oat milk and topped with red and green sprinkles.

In a mug, steep black tea in freshly boiled water for 5 minutes, covered. Covering a mug of tea while it is steeping will help it maintain the proper water temperature and steep properly.
Strain loose leaf tea or remove tea bags, depending on what you used. Add sugar cookie simple syrup and stir.
The amount of syrup used depends on your preference. If desired, add more. However, I wouldn’t add less as you need at least 1 tablespoon because this syrup is responsible for the main flavouring. You wouldn’t get a strong enough sugar cookie flavour if you use less.
Heat and froth milk until it almost doubles in volume. Top the mug of tea with the milk froth and add red and green sprinkles. Enjoy!
To Make An Iced Sugar Cookie Tea Latte:
In a glass with ice, add sugar cookie simple syrup, steeped black tea and milk. Top with whipped cream and sprinkles before serving or enjoying.
