Earl Grey Tea Cream Soda

Using one of the most popular black tea blends, let’s take the classic tea soda recipe up a notch. Fragrant earl grey syrup, ice, carbonated water and whipped cream come together to create an iced tea drink that is not only delightful but impressive, too! This Earl Grey Tea Cream Soda is a caffeinated, fizzy beverage that is a unique treat to reach for when you’re craving a cup of your favourite earl grey. It is bubbly, sweet and creamy with strong notes of bergamot citrus. Think of this earl grey soda as a sparkling earl grey latte over ice. Sounds dreamy, doesn’t it?

What is Cream Soda?

Cream soda is a sweet carbonated beverage. It is known for its creamy flavour which typically comes from natural or artificial vanilla. There are many cream soda variations though.

To make cream soda at home you would need simple syrup, sparkling water and cream. However, store bought cream soda usually doesn’t contain cream as it relies on just the vanilla flavour for the creamy essence.

This earl grey tea cream soda uses cream because there is no vanilla flavour in the recipe as the bergamot flavoured black tea is the star ingredient.

Since this tea cream soda recipe is topped with whipped cream you could also refer to it as an Earl Grey Tea Italian Cream Soda, French Soda or Whipped Cream Soda.

About the Ingredients

Earl Grey
This popular black tea is flavoured with bergamot oil. Steep it in freshly boiled water. The recipe has instructions for both earl grey loose leaf tea and earl grey tea bags. Check out this article for earl grey tea recommendations.

Sugar
Granulated sugar is used to create a simple syrup with the earl grey tea.

Carbonated Water
I like to use sparkling water. However, if you prefer seltzer water or club soda you can use that. Just make sure that the carbonated water is plain, not flavoured. Do not use tonic water.

Whipped Cream
This ingredients transforms a tea soda into a tea cream soda! Feel free to use a dairy-free whipped cream, too.
