A homemade face mask is great when you want to give your skin some love with minimal ingredients. It is inexpensive, all natural and easy to make. As someone who loves to find tea infused beauty products in stores, I like to think outside the cup and add tea to my DIY face mask, too. With just 3 or 4 ingredients, a green tea mask is recommended whether you want to cleanse your skin and make it glow or just need to unwind from a stressful day. It will soothe and hydrate your skin making you feel super refreshed. Cancel your plans, it’s time to mix up this green tea face mask and have an at-home spa day!
Green Tea Face Mask Benefits
Making your own face mask at home with green tea is very simple and cost effective. Plus, each natural ingredient in this DIY face mask provides different health benefits for your skin.
Matcha Green Tea
Green tea is known to be filled with antioxidants. This face mask recipe actually uses matcha, which is a powder green tea.
What this means is that instead of steeping green tea for the mask and using just the liquid, you will be using the entire leaves in powder form to get maximum benefits for your skin!
When consuming matcha opposed to other green teas, you are ingesting the full tea leaves and so there are more health benefits to consider. The same can be said when applying it topically.
Since it is a rich source of antioxidants, matcha is great for combatting inflammation. It can help minimize oily skin, promote smoother skin and give you that dewy glow.
To save more money, I don’t recommend using ceremonial matcha for this face mask. A lower grade that is less expensive (such as culinary or latte grade) will do.
Honey
With its natural antibacterial properties, honey is a great match for green tea in this face mask. It draws moisture in the skin and helps brighten your complexion.
Also, a honey face mask is effective at nourishing and clearing the skin as it can act as a natural exfoliator.
If the main goal is to reduce inflammation, unpasteurized honey is recommended.
Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera has been used on the skin for nearly 5000 years. It cools and soothes the skin after some time in the sun and it can be beneficial in this green tea face mask, too.
This ingredient is optional. But, if you have it on hand and need to hydrate your skin more mix a bit in as it provides a lot of moisture.
Also, aloe vera has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Here is what you will need:
1 tablespoon matcha
1 teaspoon liquid honey
1 teaspoon aloe vera (optional)
Warm water
Directions:
In a small bowl, mix matcha green tea powder, liquid honey and aloe vera (if using).
Add a bit of warm water to create a thick mask-like consistency. It should be like a paste, not runny. The amount of warm water you need will depend on whether or not you used aloe vera, too. I suggest adding a small amount (about ½ teaspoon) of warm water at a time.
After patch testing the new mask first, cleanse your face and pat dry. Apply the mask to your face and neck area. You can do so with a face mask brush, your fingers or even a spoon. Be careful as it could get a bit messy.
Leave the mask on for 10 to 15 minutes or until it completely dries.
Wash off with warm water. Pat your face dry and moisturize. Enjoy your fresh feeling skin!
