How to Make Green Tea Salt, 2 Ways

Get ready to sprinkle green tea salt on almost everything! Making your own green tea salt blend is very simple. It requires just 2 ingredients and only 1 step that will take a couple of minutes or less.

What is Green Tea Salt?

Green tea salt is a nice way to add unique flavours to a plethora of dishes and treats. It’s an easy way to begin cooking with tea, too.

The two salt blends I like to make often are matcha salt and hojicha salt. If you have either of those Japanese green teas and coarse salt on hand, then I suggest heading over to your kitchen right now!

Green Tea Salt

Matcha is a green tea powder that will simply be tossed in to coat the coarse salt. Iโ€™ll be using hojicha powder to do the same, but if you only have loose hojicha tea you can grind the leaves until they are fine, and mix it in with the salt, instead of coating it.

How to Use It

If you’re wondering “how would I use this tea salt?” I’m here to tell you the possibilities are endless.

Just think of anything you would normally add salt to and now imagine adding some tea flavour to that dish/treat, too! Sounds delicious, right? Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • toss on edamame beans
  • rub or sprinkle on meat, fish or veggies
  • sea salt crema drinks
  • sprinkle on eggs
  • add a pinch to chocolate treats
  • popcorn seasoning
  • flavour up some soups
  • sea salt flavoured kale chips
  • salad dressings
  • salt the glass rim for green tea margaritas or other cocktails/mocktails
  • green tea sea salt fries anyone?

Variations

  • Add more salt if the tea flavour is too strong and vice versa.
  • Want to add heat to your tea salt? Add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the mix!
