As a self-proclaimed teaaholic for many years, I have tried a lot of electric kettles for tea. I started out with a classic glass stovetop kettle, which I still use sometimes today for my breakfast tea. However, as I learned more about tea and how each type of tea differs, I began looking around for a kettle with more features. Since different temperatures are needed for certain teas, one of the main things I wanted was a kettle that would give me some control over that. A tea kettle is something I use every single day and it’s always on my kitchen counter for display and easy access. Therefore, it’s important to me to have one that is designed smart and functional.
So Many Electric Kettles…which one is right for you?
There are various styles of electric kettles, so you might be overwhelmed with options when you start shopping. The kettle you want will ultimately come down to a personal preference. For instance, I like gooseneck spouts because of the precision pour. However, I prefer that control only when I’m making matcha or using my gaiwan. If I’m just making a big teapot of tea, I tend to reach for the kettle with the regular short spout. This is actually why I own more than one tea kettle!
Gooseneck spouts are used for pour-over coffee as well. Some users may notice that by the time the water goes through the long spout and hits the tea leaves, the temperature may have dropped a bit. I personally haven’t noticed a big difference when using mine for most teas though. It’s important to also note that gooseneck spouts are not equal. You can find some on the market today that are very long, thin, or wider and short. The design of the gooseneck spout determines the speed of which the water pours out. I made sure to include a variety of electric kettles for tea on this short list as I know everyone has a different preference.
Some electric tea kettles have a built in infuser so you can steep your tea directly inside. I prefer to just heat my water and use another steeping vessel, so none of the kettles I recommend below have a built-in infuser. This means the electric kettles below are strictly for heating water for tea. You can not (and should not) steep tea directly in them.
Best Electric Tea Kettles
This list of best electric kettles for tea is in no particular order. You can find a handy comparison chart below, too. I have previously tried and loved all of the kettles recommended.
1. Digital Variable Temperature Gooseneck Kettle from Bonavita
This kettle was my first ever variable temperature kettle and it still works so well. I have had no issues with this kettle all the years I’ve had it and it’s been through a lot of travelling, too. The stainless steel body above is the original design. However, you can now get this kettle in other colours and materials (like matte black or glass) with a stainless steel base. The 1.0L capacity (which is the one I own) is 1000 watts. This kettle is also available in 1.7L (1500 watts). You can adjust the temperatures in one degree increments starting from 140 degrees F to 212 degrees F with the plus and minus buttons. You can also view the temperature in Celsius if you prefer that. Once it reaches the temperature you will begin the hear the kettle click and you can maintain the temperature for up to 1 hour.
Other things I love about this kettle:
– the pour is flawless, not too slow
– reliable, I’ve had this kettle for years and no issues
2. Stagg EKG and/or Corvo EKG from Fellow Products
I’m obsessed with the minimalist design of this kettle. Fellow Products did such an awesome job creating a functional kettle with all features, plus a stylish look. You don’t have to worry about trying to fit a bulky, not so nice looking kettle on your counter top. The Stagg EKG has a gooseneck spout similar to the Bonavita one above. I find that the pour with the Stagg EKG is a bit slower than the Bonavita kettle though.
If you’re not into gooseneck spouts for tea, Fellow Products also has the Corvo EKG with a spout you would typically find on other electric kettles for tea. The Stagg EKG and Corvo EKG are the same otherwise. They both are 1200 watts for quick water heating. They both let you control the temperature by toggling the dial from 135 degrees F to 212 degrees F. Additionally, you can maintain the perfect temperature for up to 1 hour. Another handy feature is that it lets you time your steeps with the built in stopwatch. Fellow Products occasionally releases limited editions colours for these kettles, too (ie. white, gold, etc.).
Other things I love about this kettle:
– the lid: it snugs onto the kettle so nicely and there is no struggle to remove it.
– the handle design makes it super comfortable to hold and pour
– did I mention how snazzy the design is?!?!

3. The IQ Kettle™ Pure from Breville
This kettle is glass with a stainless steel base. Unlike the kettles above, the Breville IQ has temperature presets for different types of teas. With just a click of a button you can set the kettle to heat up to the temperature needed for a green, white, oolong, black or herbal tea. There is also a boil and french press option. Temperatures range from 175 degrees F to 212 degrees F. This is handy when you’re not aware of the temperature needed for a specific tea, but it is a bit limiting if you want to have a temperature in between. You can hold the temperature for up to 20 minutes. This kettle is quite large at about 1.6L, so it is ideal if you’re making several cups of tea.
Other things I love about this kettle:
– the glass design to see the water boil inside
– ding alert when it reaches the set temperature
– removable scale filter, easier to clean
– auto off function
4. Stout Spout™ Variable Temperature Cupping Kettle from Brewista
If you’re looking for an electric kettle for tea that is not a gooseneck but still allows you to have more control with the pour, then the Stout Spout from Brewista is probably the one for you! With a stainless steel body, this kettle has an innovative tapered spout design. The capacity is 1.2L and the temperature range is wider than the kettles above. Similar to the kettle from Bonavita, you can set the temperature using the plus and minus buttons. I like that this kettle also has an auto-start feature that lets users set the time and temperature at which the kettle reaches the desired temperature. This kettle also displays the temperature recommendations for certain tea types on the base. Super easy to double check that you’re setting it to the right temperature!
Other things I love about this kettle:
– fast pour, still with control
– auto off function if left unattended for more than 1 hour
– comes with a sample pack of Cafetto Restore Descaler
