Tea Discovery with Field to Cup Subscription Box

If there is one really great way to be introduced to new teas, it’s a tea subscription box. As a fan of this service, I recently tried a newer one. Field to Cup is described as your monthly box of tea discovery. You can get 4-5 loose leaf teas delivered to your door each month and you can slightly customize your experience. I have tried their subscription service for two months now, going on to three, so I wanted to share my thoughts! Psst..there is a giveaway at the end of this post that you should totally enter, too. Why not start the new year and national hot tea month off with some free tea?

Field to Cup’s tea subscription service is divided into three different categories. The amount of tea you get will depend on which box you select. One thing I really like about this tea subscription company is that you get a box selection so you can get something based on your tea preferences. If you’re sensitive to caffeine or just not keen on too much, you can even select a low caffeine box from either category.

Field to Cup’s Tea Box Categories

The Adventurer box (4 teas, 40-72 cups) is perfect for those who prefer straight teas more than blends.

The Discoverer (5 teas, 60-96 cups) is meant for those who want more of one specific tea type.

The Explorer (4 teas, 20-32 cups) is great if you just want to sample new teas in smaller quantities.

All teas are loose leaf and your first box includes paper steeping filters.

Another thing I appreciate from Field to Cup’s tea subscription box is that in their steeping guide included with every box they also make sure to give directions on how to steep in a mug or teapot. This gives the drinkers options, not making them limited to just one steeping method. I think a next step would be to add the actual mug and teapot size the measurements are for though as not all are the same and the drinkers could be using an 8 ounce mug when the directions are actually for 6 ounce, etc.

Field to Cup’s Tea Subscription Box Review

Here I am actually going back in time and featuring the Adventurer – December 2018 box. With the Adventurer box you are guaranteed 4 teas every month that will equal 40-72 cups of tea. 2 of the teas are premium teas, and the other 2 could be anything else from black tea to herbal. In this particular box, 3 of my teas were premium (2 of which were black, 1 green) and the fourth tea was an herbal blend (kind of…you’ll see what I mean). This was an end of the year box, so a sample of Organic Vanilla Matcha was included, too. I’ll just be focusing on the main teas included in this box though.

Field to CupPremium Teas

Smoky Keemun

This Keemun Hao Ya A grade black tea is from Anhui Province, China. This tea steeps a gorgeous deep red colour. With the first sip, I’m amazed at the strength. The flavour is very rich, and quite malty. While the aroma of this tea is smoky, the smoky taste is subtle. When it comes to taste, I find that I actually notice more honey and floral sweetness than anything else. This is definitely a remarkable keemun grade.

Organic Sikkim First Flush

This is an organic black tea from Temi Tea Garden, India and was harvested in April 2018. Field to Cup says they fell in love with this tea at the first sip, and I most definitely did, too. This tea was easily my favourite from the box! This steep provides a golden cup of liquor. I savoured every sip of this tea during a rainy day. If sunshine had a taste, it would be this tea. This highly aromatic tea is full-bodied with delicate muscatel and plum notes.

Silver Bud Jasmine Pearls

This jasmine-scented rolled green tea is from Fujian Province, China. I appreciate that this green tea was dried with real jasmine blossoms, opposed to just adding oils to the leaves. It makes a huge difference. The fresh aroma is intoxicating and will hook you in immediately. The pale yellow steep provides a silky, smooth mouthfeel. As always, it’s fun to watch these pearls unfurl.

Tea Blend

Cacao Spice Chai

In this herbal blend you’ll find cacao shells, black tea, rooibos, vanilla, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger. The ingredient list states there is black tea, so technically this is not a herbal tea like the packaging advertises. However, I will say that this blend is primarily cacao shells with spices. It was hard to spot any tea leaves in my pouch. That being said, I really enjoyed this tea during the holidays. It was warm, inviting, but I would have liked it to be more powerful with the spices. The cacao shells seemed to have mellowed out the spicy flavours you would typically find in a masala chai blend. This might be something to try if you enjoy chocolate based blends.

Overall, I was extremely happy with the teas in this box and how well this service is put together. I’m excited to get my next box for another tea discovery! But right now, I’m excited to give a box away to one of you readers….

  1. I have never had the chance to try one of these boxes but as a passionate tea lover I would most definitely appreciate the opportunity to try out an assortment of teas that I would otherwise never get to try! It’s a lovely concept with a great execution!
