Tea Parties Around the World // Book Review + Giveaway

Tea Time Magazine is a tea drinker’s source for all things related to tea moments including recipes and tea room features. If you have not read the magazine before there is a chance it may have at least captured your attention at a magazine stand once or twice before. It’s always an eyecatching publication with elegant tea ware and treats on the cover. The folks at Tea Time Magazine are adding another fabulous tea related book to their shelf of published work. Tea Parties Around the World is a book you may want by your side when you are planning your next afternoon tea party.

tea partiesTea Parties Around the World is a recipe book that celebrates different cultures and countries. It is divided into 10 afternoon tea party menus — 1 for each country listed in the book. The countries are: Australia, China, France, India, Japan, Morocco, Netherlands, Russia, Scotland and South Africa.

The 97 recipes that fill the 136 pages of this new book range from sweet to savoury. Each menu lists a scone, savouries and sweets. You’ll find scones like Apricot-Lavender (France), savouries like Lentil Samosas (India) and sweets like Lemon Vanilla Shortbread (Scotland), just to name a few.

tea partiesThe feature I love most about this book is that it also pairs teas with each scone, savouries and sweets. For example, the Japan menu suggests Gyokuro green tea to pair with the scone, houjicha roasted green tea to pair with the savouries and bancha green tea for the sweets.

This makes Tea Parties Around the World even more of an essential if you’re hosting an afternoon tea party. Not only do you get to pick your tea party themed based on a country and have an entire menu set out for you already, but you also get some ideas on what teas to serve your guest. tea partiesThis afternoon tea style book is beautifully photographed, making it a wonderful gift for tea drinkers. Even if a tea drinker is not keen on baking, this could double as a coffee tea table book because of how it is presented. I was in awe with every tea ware I laid my eyes on as I was flipping through the book the first time. I made some mental notes of some sets I would like to find for myself.

Of course, I was equally in love with the photographs of the completed recipes, too. That’s another thing I appreciate about Tea Parties Around the World. They have included images for almost all the recipes in the book. I usually dislike recipe books that have little to no images so you can’t see how the completed recipe should actually look. Visual learner here!

The book concludes with a basic tea steeping guide and visual guides. These visual guides are for some recipes in the book like how to form pot stickers, samosas, and more!

  1. You can never go wrong with the classic pairing of English Breakfast Tea and shortbread. But I would love this book to up my tea game from the regular.

  2. I love to make lemon bars and eat them, the more lemon-y, the better!! Maybe with Earl Grey or Black tea. I subscribe to Live British Tea, so always enjoy trying new things. That is some of my “tea around the world”. Looks like a wonderful book for ideas and tea culture, I would enjoy it so much!!!

  3. Lovely! I love a good traditional english breakfast tea and scone combo, but I was recently gifted a box of macadamia shortbread from Hawaii, and they go wonderfully with the roasted chestnut tea I have <3

  4. My favourite tea is English Breakfast Tea. My preferred pairing would therefore have to be English Breakfast Tea accompanied by sultana scones with strawberry jam and Devon clotted cream.

  5. The book looks very intriguing. I like a simple biscuit/cookie with an oolong or green tea. And I have always loved a good cucumber sandwich.

  6. I don’t know how to REALLY pair tea, but I’m a huge fan of baking up a lemon loaf and nibbling on this while drinking a lemon flavored tea (like Lemon Soleil from Adagio, for example). Maybe it’s lemon overkill, but I love it!

  7. That book looks amazing! I’ve always loved tea, and recently I’ve been trying to learn more about it (Tea Enthusiast’s Handbook has been fun.) It’s always fascinating to find out how other cultures treat your interests (for instance, I was gobsmacked to find out that some people sweeten their tea with jam!)

Bummer that I missed the deadline to enter your contest. But I might go ahead and order a copy myself from Amazon.
