I have never been a big fan of pop but would drink the occasional can when I was younger. I only drank a couple of flavours and my go-to was root beer. What made a cold glass of root beer better on a hot summer day was adding a scoop or two of ice cream for a classic root beer float. One day I wanted to pay homage to those childhood memories and enjoy a refreshing treat similar to it. However, I wanted to swap the sugary pop for something else. Kombucha is a fizzy fermented tea drink and it is the closest thing to pop that I drink today. Therefore, I decided to recreate the classic and make a kombucha float!
Much like root beer floats, a kombucha float is ridiculously easy to make. It will probably take you longer to consume it and that says a lot since that alone isn’t even much time!
There is no real detailed recipe other than to grab your favourite kombucha brand and flavour, pour it in a glass over two scoops of your favourite ice cream.
Kombucha + Ice Cream Combinations
In this recipe, I used a kombucha that is a blend of tart lemon, tangy raspberry, and spicy ginger with french vanilla ice cream. You can try a variety of flavour combinations!
From simple to more gourmet, from gelato to dairy free ice cream, here are some ideas:
- Ginger Kombucha with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
- Apple Kombucha with Salted Caramel Ice Cream
- Berry Kombucha with Coconut Ice Cream
- Chai Kombucha with Chocolate Ice Cream
- Original Kombucha with Butterscotch Ripple Ice Cream
You can add your own flavours to your kombucha float, too!
Before pouring the kombucha over the glass of ice cream, add it in some fresh herbs or fruit. This can depend on what kombucha and ice cream combination you use, but some ideas are mint, blueberries and strawberries.
Kombucha Brands
It’s important to use whatever kombucha you know you already like. Sometimes I find they can be a hit or a miss.
If you make your own kombucha, even better! However, if you’re looking for some kombucha brands, these are usually my go-to:
Kombucha Float
Ingredients
- 2 scoops of ice cream
- 1 bottle of kombucha
- herbs and/or fruit optional
Instructions
- In a glass, scoop in your favourite ice cream.
- Pour the kombucha over the ice cream in the glass, until there is no more room. Don't pour too fast or it will quickly overfill. Usually half a bottle of kombucha will be enough for one glass.
- Sip & enjoy!
