What I “Tea” in a Day // ep. 2

Last time I shared all of the teas I had during a weekday, so I thought it would be fun to document my tea routine from a weekend. As a refresher, “what I tea in a day” is where I make note of all the teas I consumed during a day to learn more about my tea habits. In this case, I am taking you along on a tea filled Saturday to see how it varies when I’m not sitting in front of a computer often doing work. This weekend was still a bit different as I wasn’t home all the time, so my steeping adventures in the afternoon consisted of tea on the go, and even a commercial teabag brand! From early morning to night, here is my second “episode” of what I tea in a day.

8:30a.m.: Ceylon from Walters Bay

Like my weekdays, I usually prefer a black tea to start the morning. That morning I decided to steep a Ceylon black tea that I received a few weeks ago. I kept that morning cup of tea straight – no sweetener or milk, and I re-steeped the leaves twice! This Ceylon is crisp with citrus notes and is OP1 grade – long, wiry leaves.

10:15a.m.: Ceremonial Matcha from Encha

Matcha usually a part of my weekday tea routine, but there are times I make it during the weekend just because. Even if I’m not really craving a bowl, I sometimes get the urge to just enjoy the art of preparing matcha. That’s what happened this weekend! I fully enjoyed my bowl of matcha after I made it. I used another one of my favourite matcha brands, Encha, first harvest ceremonial matcha. When prepared traditionally (this way specifically), it’s creamy, slightly sweet with no bitterness.

12:00p.m.: Fire Roasted Oolong from Esteemed Tea Co.

I have been enjoying this oolong for the last couple of weeks. It’s smooth with subtle floral notes, but mostly grains and a lovely natural sweetness that lingered. The whole leaves actually come in a tea bag, but lately I have just cut the bag to release the leaves and steep them directly in my small glass teapot.

4:30p.m.: Night in Rio from T By Daniel

Knowing it was going to be a humid day that would be spent in the pool, I set some of this tea in the fridge the night before to cold steep. I used a tea tumbler, too, so it was easy to just grab and go out the door and it was very refreshing! I love a lot of green and oolong teas cold, but lately I have been using juicy fruit-based tea blends (like this one!) for the cold steeping method. Water and tea are basically all I drink, so it’s nice to have a fruity cold steep that is kind of similar to drinking juice!

7:30p.m.: Red Rose Orange Pekoe (Canadian*)

I was out for dinner and also I was out of tea that I brought myself, so with dessert I steeped the only tea that was available in the place I was at….Red Rose! It’s such a nostalgic tea for me, I don’t usually mind, especially when I had great tea earlier in the day 🙂

*I referred to it as Canadian, because even though there is also Red Rose in the U.S., it’s my understanding that the teas are different!

Today’s tea count: 5 teas // 2 black, 1 green, 1 oolong, 1 herbal
