What I “Tea” in a Day

As a tea blogger, I’m always interviewing fellow tea drinkers and learning more about their tea drinking habits. I share a bit of my own tea habits through photos on my Instagram account, but decided I should start doing so on my blog as well. “How much tea do you drink in a day?” is a popular question I receive and I’m here to give you somewhat of an answer! The thing is, depending on the day, I know that my tea habits can change often. I started making note of the teas I consume in a random day, beginning with today, and documenting them here. So, if you want to see my “what I tea in a day” from today, continue reading.

But first, let me explain the inspiration behind this…

“What I Eat In A Day” videos on YouTube are a guilty pleasure of mine. I don’t know what is so fascinating about seeing the kind of things strangers eat during their day, but it’s slightly addicting. I hope I’m not alone in this! I should note though that I prefer the “what I eat in a day” videos that don’t seem to be planned out and are more real when a doughnut was breakfast and lunch was forgotten about until almost dinner time. I also love paying attention to what people are actually drinking throughout the day. The tea nerd in me is definitely looking for those cups of teas!

Think of this post as a “what I eat in a day” tea edition because I will not be sharing food or other beverages, just teas that I had a chance to enjoy today.

8:30a.m.: Assam Black Tea from Bihu Bold

I almost always start a weekday with a big mug of Assam or another “breakfast” type black tea. I recently was sent some Assam from author Shona Patel. If you have not read her first book, Teatime for the Firefly, I highly recommend it (with a cup of tea by your side, too!) I’ve never been a coffee person, so perhaps that’s why I like to reach for a bold black tea first thing in the morning. The rich, malt flavours from Bihu Bold’s Assam make it perfect to kick off the day. Shona recommended I add a splash of milk, which I happily did because that is usually how I enjoy my morning tea.

11:30a.m.: Ceremonial Matcha from Grace & Green

Around lunch time I was beginning to crave a matcha, so I did what any tea obsessed person does and I listened to my tea craving. Today, I prepared one of my favourite matcha brand’s matcha traditionally – whisking with a chasen in a chawan – which is how I drink my matcha most of the time. I think I’m kind of addicted to the art of preparing it. You can see how I make my matcha here.

4:45p.m.: Oriental Beauty Oolong from High Mountain Tea Co.

tea in a day

Unfortunately, the next time I found a chance to get some tea again today was when I completed my work day. Late afternoon I had a chance to pull out one of my gaiwans this time (yay!) and get multiple steeps from an oriental beauty oolong tea. This tea took me into the evening. I have shared some tasting notes for this tea on the blog before. If you’re interested, you can find that here.

…and, that was it for today’s tea intake! I think it’s interesting to see that as the day goes by, my cups get smaller. I went from a mug, to a bowl, to tasting cups.

Today’s tea count: 3 teas // 1 black, 1 green, 1 oolong

I’m going to continue randomly recording what teas I drink in a day, because I know it varies depending on what my day is like. Maybe next time I will document a day during the weekend, and not the weekday/work day. If you like this “what I tea in a day” post, be sure to let me know so I can share more random tea filled days.

So, what did your day in tea look like? Let me know in the comments below!
