DIY Green Tea Body Scrub

I will admit that sometimes I’m that person that will purchase a beauty product just because it lists tea as an ingredient. I have lotion, lip balm, face masks, soaps, and even mascara that are made with tea. There are actually quite a bit of products out there that include tea whether it’s just for the aroma or for some sort of benefit. However, the amount of tea found in some commercial skin care products may not be enough to have any benefit. So, every now and then I will try making my own tea infused beauty product, like this DIY green tea body scrub that leaves the skin incredibly silky and makes it feel like a spa day at home.

I used two different green teas in this body scrub — matcha and a green tea bag. I decided on green tea opposed to other tea types, because it’s the most common tea that is used in skin care products due to the studies on green tea’s effects on skin. For a DIY like this one, I usually use the contents of a tea bag as it is already super fine and I prefer to keep my higher quality tea for drinking.

Aside from the tea, there are only two more ingredients that you need! Coconut oil is a natural moisturizer. If you don’t have it, you can replace it for another oil that you may like such as extra virgin olive oil or almond oil. Sugar acts as an exfoliator in this body scrub. You can try to replace it with sea salt if you wish, but I have not tried that method yet.

Here is what you will need:DIY Green Tea Body Scrub

– 1/2 cup coconut oil, melted
– 1 1/4 cup white sugar
– 1 green tea bag
– 1 teaspoon matcha green tea powder

Directions

1. In a bowl, combine both the green tea leaves and matcha green tea powder along with the sugar.

2. Slowly add in the coconut oil and mix together.

3. When the green tea scrub is a dry and crumbly consistency, place in a container with a lid to seal and store in a cool and dry place. If you find that the green tea scrub is too wet, just add more sugar. If you find it is too dry, add a bit more coconut oil.

If you wish, you can even mix in a few drops of your favourite essential oil to amp up the aroma.

You can begin using this DIY green tea body scrub right away. If stored properly, it should keep for a few months. I recommend using this scrub while in the bath or shower. To avoid stings, be sure not to use it on any area with cuts or scrapes. It is such a wonderful and more natural way give your skin some serious love. Give it a try and you’ll notice how great the minimal ingredients work together 🙂
