Thank you for the tips! I came across your site when I googled why my matcha didn't foam after whisking. I'm new to making my own matcha lattes and bought a container from Costco. The brand that they sell (in my city) is not sourced from the Japanese regions that you mentioned, although still from Japan. I thought that $20 CAD for the large tin of matcha was too good to be true! David's Tea sells matcha sourced from Nishio, and they're having a sale now. Time for me to shop!

Hi Lucy, yes I'm familiar with DAVIDsTea. I'm based in Canada :)
It's been a while since I've tried their matcha though. I know they have different ones from the last time I had and improved their offerings. Nishio, Japan is a good spot for matcha, so not to worry there. The pricing seems pretty decent, too. If you're enjoying the matcha that's most important, I think.
As for my top 5 matcha brands, I switch it up but right now I am drinking mainly Encha's ceremonial matcha and Grace & Green's ceremonial matcha.

Hi Lu Ann...are you familiar with DAVIDsTEA, out of Canada, I believe?
I just purchased their Organic Ceremonial Matcha, from their walk-in store. It was $39 USD for 50g. It says on the ingredient list.."organic matcha green tea from Nishio, Japan. So from what I've researched, that should be good, right? I thought it was quite expensive at first, but then after researching pricing realized it was just about right on. And really, it ends up being about $1 per serving depending on how much powder is used for the serving. And it's all worth the $$$ spent.
It's delicious too! I've had it cold with coconut milk, and in a smoothie with banana, coconut milk and cinnamon; and plain with cold water. Haven't tried it hot yet.
This is my first matcha purchase, after deciding I was done spending almost $6 for a large cold matcha with coconut milk at $tarbuck$ ..there's a reason they have the word "bucks" in their name, lol!
Anyhow, although I've always been a little wary of online buying, I am so excited about trying some of your matcha suggestions! Do you have an ultimate favorite of the 5 brands you listed?
