DIY Green Tea After Sun Spray

This is a guest post by Jen Fitch of A Sip of Bliss.

Summer is definitely in full swing, and in Austin it is HOT! I have been spending a lot of time by the pool lately and with all of the sun exposure, my skin has been needing a refresher. I decided to whip up a DIY after sun spray with the amazing skin benefits of green tea. Green tea is wonderful for your skin, both when you drink it or apply it topically. It is chock full of antioxidants and has anti inflammatory properties. It can also help ease and soothe skin after sun exposure, whether just a little sun or if you stayed out a bit to long and got burnt (oops!). The spray gets extra healing properties with witch hazel and aloe vera.

Here is what you will need:

after sun spray
– 1 Bag of Green Tea
– 3oz Hot Water
– 2oz Witch Hazel (Alcohol Free)
– 1 tbsp Aloe Vera Gel
– 5oz Fine Mist Spray Bottle

Directions:

1. Steep the tea bag in 3oz hot water for 10 minutes. (You are basically making a super concentrated tea). Remove tea bag and refrigerate until cool.

2. Mix cooled tea, witch hazel and aloe in the spray bottle.

3. Shake well before using.

4. Store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

This spray is such a wonderful refresher after a day in the sun. If your skin is needing a little love this summer, give it a try!

  1. Never thought about using Green Tea as an after sun spray. I wonder how effective it would be as a light moisturizer? I’m definitely going to try this out, thanks for posting! & I love your blog 🙂

  2. Thanks for this great recipe! I’m definitely going to try this! As a black woman, I rarely burn, but my skin does sizzle under the sun at the cottage…

    • Hi Valerie, I haven’t tried it with white tea before so I can’t comment on how it went but I think it is definitely worth trying out (and can be made the same way as the green tea after sun spray!) Let me know if you do give it a go and how white tea benefits.
