Tea Review: The Persimmon Tree’s Honeysuckle

Honeysuckle – The Persimmon Tree
Ingredients: Organic Pu erh Loose-Leaf Tea

Steep Time: 5 minutes

First Sip Thought: “Wake up time!”

Smell: Weee! I think I found a great wake up system – just take a sniff of this. It’s a strong, woodsy scent that has you wondering what’s beyond those leaves for the after steep. I found the scent mellowed down after the leaves were wet and steeped into a deep red liquid.

Taste: It’s Monday…what better day to have a cup of Pu-erh tea to help wake you up for the busy week ahead. Honeysuckle from The Persimmon Tree did not disappoint in that department. This particular pu-erh is cooked and has been aged for about 4-6 years. Beyond the smell, the taste was invigorating and was quite earthy with a lingering honeysuckle taste that added some floral sweetness to the sips. I started to pick up some wood like flavour as the tea had a chance to cool down a bit more. I love having a good cup of unflavoured tea and trying to pick up each natural taste that occurs. This might be one of my favourite straight pu-erh teas now. I would recommend it to tea beginners that are looking to try pu-erh tea for the first time as it’s not intimating and you can even resteep it without any bitter taste.

Verdict: 4.5 out of 5 tea leaves
