perfect cup of herbal tea

Contrary to popular belief, when consuming a cup of herbal tea, you are actually consuming an herbal infusion – also known as a tisane – rather than actual brewed “tea.” Herbal infusions look like tea and are brewed in boiling water like tea however, they do not come from the Camellia sinensis bush. Although tisane does not contain as any polyphenols, it does promote other various health qualities such as relaxation and calming effects.
There is one important tip that should be known to anyone who is about to or thinking of brewing a pot of herbal tea. Herbal teas are quite unique and have a different way of brewing from traditional teas. They tend to take longer to brew and will usually show little or faint colour. When brewing use 1 teaspoon for each person and 1 extra for the pot.
Infusion is best for fresh or dried herb leaves, petals and flowers. Begin by bringing cold water just to boiling point (perfect temperature point is usually right before the pot starts to boil). A way to get the most flavor out of your herbal tea (or any tea really) is to place your loose leaf tea directly into the teapot and straining them later on. This allows for more natural and enrich flavours. You can strain them with a strainer or you can invest in a neat little tool like the Tea Master from Teaopia. Pour the warm water directly onto the tea leaves and allow to steep for five minutes before serving. Steep timing is really based on your own preferences and how strong you may want your cup of tea. Afterwards, simply fill a cup halfway with the infusion and add boiling water to it.
Sip. Savor & Enjoy.
*If the tea tastes a little bitter, it is usually best to cut back on the steeping time so it may not release more mellow flavours. To sweeten the tea taste, you can try adding a teaspoon or two of honey.
Happy Steeping!
