tea talk: Jen from No Time Like Tea Time

I’m delighted to share with my readers my first tea interview of 2013. No Time Like Tea Time‘s Jen and I connected when she first found The Cup of Life and emailed me on a special way to connect with each others’ blogs. When I stumbled across hers I quickly realized how unique, and interesting her writing was. I was intrigued and excited when she said yes to my interview request. She’s new to the tea blogging community so be sure to give her a big welcome and check out her site – it has easily become one of my favourites.

1. Firstly, tell us a little about yourself, the author.

My name is Jen, I’m 23, and I’m addicted to tea. Literally. haha I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and I just recently moved to Vancouver, BC (the one in Canada haha).  I have many interests, but the ones most important to me revolve around food and drinks, in addition to loving tea I am also an amateur mixologist and I love to cook as well.  I believe there isn’t any thing a good drink and a good meal can’t heal. =)

2. What inspired you to create your blog?

My inspiration stemmed from when I first started getting into tea, I noticed a pretty big hole in the online community of blogs that represent tea, and I felt like I could and should fill that hole.  What I mean by that is a lot of times when you’re reading blogs about tea they are really technical about it and for someone who doesn’t quite understand the lingo or just isn’t that advanced, it can make your head spin!  In addition to that, I also noticed that these tea blogs rarely talk about things that aren’t of the highest quality or special in one way or another, but I feel that all kinds of tea still have a place online so I decided to include them in my blog. I write about all sorts of tea weather it’s in a bag or not, as long as it’s good, it has a place at No Time Like Tea Time.

3. How did you first get pulled into the tea world? Was it love at first sip?

I honestly don’t know, I never really had tea growing up other than my moms iced tea which was just Lipton, nothing special there.  And then one day when I was 17 or 18 I just started drinking it, and I’m not sure why, but I haven’t stopped since.  I have often wondered what it is that got me started and I just don’t know.  Maybe I was hypnotized? haha

4. What is your favourite cup of tea? And favourite brand?

Oh man, that is an unfair question! haha My favorite tea changes every week, but I would have to say that the one I go back to the most is regular black tea, more specifically, English breakfast.  I think it’s because that’s what I started drinking when this whole tea journey started.  As for favorite brand, I love everything Art of Tea carries, everything is organic and fresh and the customer service is superb.

5. As a new blog, what do you hope to gain from your writing journey?

I hope to teach newcomers to tea about the different types and their health benefits and if any, their side effects as well.  I don’t consider myself all-knowing when it comes to tea so this is more of a learning experience than anything else.  As I try new teas and learn more about them, I will add that to my blog and then No Time Like Tea Time will be growing with me as a tea enthusiast and my journey will be (basically) published for the world to read.

6. Any last words you’d like to say:

I’d just like to thank you for this opportunity to do this interview and I’d also like to invite your readers to visit me at my blog anytime they like.  You can find me at my site or on Twitter(@NoTimeLikeTtime) or Tumblr.  I love to interact with my readers so don’t be shy!  Thank you again, it’s been a pleasure =)
